Gallery Hop through Historic Downtown Savannah

Now entering its fourth decade, Savannah’s SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) inspired downtown Arts District continues to lead the way for art lovers along coastal Georgia’s designated Creative Coast. Our downtown galleries and artists are among our most enduring attractions with transformative works of art in all their mediums. The historic district represents the sweet spot in coastal Georgia when it comes to connecting collectors and art connoisseurs with the artists you can meet up with in our Savannah Getaways Gallery Hop through this relatively compact area. Many of the millions of annual visitors that come to Art Destination Savannah coincidentally are art lovers as well.  And plenty of these art aficionados make it a point upon their arrival to look in on key gallery venues, museums, artists’ studios, shops and restaurants strategically situated throughout our vibrant art community.

International artists working in conjunction with Savannah Museums and Savannah Galleries is a given as in any arts community. What sets our regional arts center apart from other art destination cities are our accomplished cadre of Savannah artists that are forever busy delivering their latest up to the minute creation. You can find something as eclectic as sidewalk art in Forsyth Park, art created exclusively for Savannah's oldest artist owned Gallery on River Street, the artistically gifted artists at Chroma Art Gallery facing Ellis Square a mere half block away from numerous other art studio/galleries in City Market like our friend Chuck Hamilton at AT Hun Gallery, take advantage of plenty of opportunities to observe Street Performance Art Buskers entertaining pedestrians along cobblestoned River Walk or the very latest presentation at Savannah’s own stylized Modern Museum of Art, The Jepson Center

So if looking to purchase tasty photographic images taken by an award winning National Geographic photographer or seeking top drawer works of internationally acclaimed artists, Historic Savannah is the place to cover all your artful needs in your own customized Gallery Hop Getaway.

...This property was actually nicer than what we expected, since it was renovated (new paint, furnishings, decor) in early 2011. Immaculate, nicely furnished with traditional pieces, antiques, art work (and flat screened TVs). Well suited for a couple or small family. Small kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, stove top, small fridge. Washer and dryer off the bath/dressing room. Nice back porch for that cup of coffee or glass of wine, while catching the sunset. The bed was very comfortable, Though the apartment was essentially 2 large rooms (along with bath/dressing area/small kitchen), those rooms were spacious and well appointed. Noise was not an issue, even with traffic on Liberty. You were more likely to hear occasional conversations of people walking by (which was actually kind of nice) than much road noise. There was a good amount of foot traffic (as in most of Savannah), which made the area feel safe and welcoming. Some of the immediate neighborhoods (Pulaski, Chatham Squares) are some of the nicest in the whole city. Just a few blocks to Bull Street, Chippewa Square or up to City Market. Broughton, River and Bay Streets are not that much further. The visitors center is close-by on MLK; Telfair and Jepson Museums are a few blocks, as are SoHo South (practically across the street), Gallery Espresso, and pubs, restaurants and markets. There are too many good restaurants to name all. Suffice it to say, after 5 days of indulgent meals and a lot of good Southern cooking, the Olde Pink House managed to still impress us on our last night (we'd go back). It's not necessary to have a car, since you can walk just about everywhere you'd like to go. If you want to do some small day-trips (we went up to Hilton Head and Beaufort), it is convenient. With more time, we would've gone farther. You have a dedicated parking space which means that you don't even have to think about parking regulations. The folks a Savannah Getaways were all very helpful. Arrangements were easily made; entry with key lock box went smoothly; deposit was returned promptly as promised. This was a great value for the money. More room than most hotels, the option of eating in once in awhile, pristine surroundings as nice as you'd find in some of Savannah's best B & B's. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return before too long, ourselves. From the comments we saw in the guest book, many others feel the same way as we do...
