October Calendar of Events

It’s officially Fall, and with the weather cooling off, it’s a perfect time to take advantage of all of these outdoor events!

Saturdays

Collage Farmers MarketForsyth Farmers Market
9am – 1pm. Every Saturday, at the south end of Forsyth Park, you’ll find plenty of locally grown, and organic, fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, and more! Talk to the farmers, and meet up with friends; it’s a great way to start your Saturday!

Wilmington Island Farmers Market
9am – 1pm. Highlighting local talent and bringing healthy foods to our doorstep. With guest Chefs, story time for the kids, and musical acts, it’s quickly become a favorite for those on the Islands.

October 3 – 5   Oktoberfest on the River
Friday, 4pm – 10pm. Saturday, 10am – 10pm. Sunday, 10am – 5pm.  It’s a Wiener Dog Racing, Bratwurst Tasting. Oompha Dancing Celebration on River Street! Enjoy a bit of Germany Savannah style with a beer garden, food booths, a Wiener Dog Race, arts, crafts, and live entertainment.

October 5   Picnic in the ParkPicnic Savannahians look forward to this annual event, where they go all-out with their picnic spreads, and compete to win prizes, and the coveted title of “best of.” This year’s theme is “Fly Me to the Moon.”  Free and open to the public.

October 7   Kevin James Live
7:30pm. The King of Queens star comes to the Savannah Civic Center for a stand up comedy routine. Tickets $29 – $70.

October 9 – 11  Savannah Greek Festival
11am – 9pm.  The annual festival will feature homemade Greek foods, desserts, and dancing, church tours, market place, a live band and so much more during the three-day celebration of Greek food, music and heritage. Come enjoy the food, shopping, music, dancing and atmosphere of the Greek culture.

Pirate's Fest

October 9 – 12
Tybee Island Pirate Fest
Come out to Tybee for a Swashbuckling good time! With live music, pirates, street performers, magicians, puppeteers, and weaponry demonstrations, it’s fun for the whole family! Little pirates enjoy an entire area devoted to family entertainment with bounce houses, storytellers, face painting and more! October 11   Midnight Garden Ride
Savannah’s favorite family-friendly bicycling event is moving to a new location and date. Ellis Square is the new home of Midnight Garden Ride and the Good and Evil Party. After our casually-paced, police-escorted ride through Savannah’s most beautiful neighborhoods, we’ll return to Ellis Square for live music and fun.

Collage Speed ClassicOctober 24 – October 26
Savannah Speed Classic
Bringing back Savannah’s auto racing heritage, the Savannah Speed Classic is a unique race track experience offering an intimate look at the inner working of racing! This year’s races will feature celebrity drivers, hot lap rides at racing speeds, vintage racing, pit/paddock access, and a special class of Pre-War race cars. Times and prices vary. ShipOctober 24 – November 2
Spanish shop El Galeon Andalucia

This 170-foot long, 500 ton ship is the only Galeon class vessel sailing today. Five of the seven decks will be available for the public to tour, and featured events include Tapas and Tango – A Night in Spain, Party like a Pirate Rum Tasting and Concert, Crawl-o-Ween Pub Crawl and Haunted Pirate Ship. Tour times and ticket prices vary. October 25   Wag-o-Ween
This annual Trick-or-Treat fundraising event is fun for the whole family – especially the furry members! Follow the map to over 100 businesses and Treat-or-Treat with your canine companion. There will be a costume contest and raffle times. $5 per person; proceeds benefit local pet rescue agencies.

October 25   Little Grand Wine Tasting
3p – 6pm.  Come to the Tybee Island Social Club for this preview of the Wine Festival’s signature event! Enjoy wine tastings from dozens of vineyards, appetizers, live music, a silent auction, and a souvenir Tickets are $25, and proceeds benefit the Tybee Post Theater.

Collage Film FestivalOcotber 25 – November 1
Savannah Film Festival
Filled with cinematic creativity from both award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers, the festival is host to a wide variety of competition film screenings, special screenings, workshops, panels, and lectures.

October 31   Savannah River Street Crawl-o-Ween
7pm – midnight. This Halloween pub crawl will feature select bars and restaurants on River Street. Crawl along the cobblestones and your own pace while enjoying drink specials along the way. Tickets are $10 per person and include a souvenir cup.

Savannah September Events

While the days of Summer slowly start to fade away, they bring cooler weather, and Savannah events are back in full swing!  With many family-friendly, and FREE events, it’s hard to fit them all into your schedule!

Saturdays  Forsyth Farmers MarketBring your re-usable bag, and fill up with local, organic goodies every Saturday morning on the South end of Forsyth Park.  Fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, farm-raised meats, and educational presentations.  This is where Savannah locals go to stock up for the week.  Saturdays, 9am – 1pm, Rain or shine.

9/4 – 11/21  Savannah Live. Savannah Live is a high-energy, 2-hour variety show that features everything from “Pop” to “Broadway” and Motown” to “Rock & Roll!”  Check out the website for ticket prices and show times.

9/5   First Friday Fireworks.
  Celebrate the end of the week and the beginning of a new month with First Friday Fireworks and River Street Fun! 9:30pm on the River.  Free and open to the public.

9/5 – 9/6  Inaugural Bacon Fest.  Love Bacon?  Then you’ll love Bacon Fest where your favorite local restaurants will be serving up their most mouth-watering bacon creations all weekend long!  Free and open to the public.

9/6  Savannah International Food & Wine Festival. 
With over 50 wines to sample, and signature dishes from your favorite Savannah restaurants, this is always a much anticipated event.  There will also be a Silent Auction, where a portion of the proceeds will benefit COPE; a program that combats childhood obesity. 3p – 6pm at the Hellenic Center on Abercorn Street.

9/18  Third Thursday Concert Series. 
Enjoy the last days of Summer on the Tybee Island Pier with a concert at the Pier and Pavilion. 5:30pm. Free and open to the public.

9/19  “Jaws” at Tybee Light StationBring your beach chairs and blankets and settle in for this classic blockbuster. Vendors will be on-site, and there will be cool “Jaws” memorabilia up for auction, where proceeds will benefit the Tybee Post Theater. Gates open at 7pm, movie starts at 8pm.  Adults $10, Kids under 12, $5.

9/21 – 9/27 – Savannah Jazz FestivalJazz is one of our country’s most sought-after international exports, with its language being “spoken” by people around the world. Jazz, emanating from America, has become world music. It is America’s Classical Music. The Coastal Jazz Association is committed to perpetuating Jazz and will feature numerous concerts throughout the event.  Free and open to the public.

9/27  Fee Free Day at Fort Pulaski. A family friendly event where you can learn about the it’s part in the Civil War.  Free and open to the public.

 

9/27 Savannah Derby Devils vs. South Florida Roller GirlsCome out for this rock-em-sock-em, action packed event where local business women by day, become Derby Devils by night. Adults $12, Children 3-12, $2, Family 4-Pack (2 Adults, 2 Children, $26), Group of 10, $10.


9/28 Coastal Pet Rescue’s 8th Annual Cruise for Critters. This two-hour sight seeing tour is hosted by Savannah’s own Captain Mike of Captain Mike’s Dolphin Tours. 2pm – 5pm. $30 per person includes light refreshments and event t-shirt, and proceeds benefit Coastal Pet Rescue.

Savannah Events and Happenings – August 2014

August is here, and as the weather stays warm, there are plenty of cool events in Savannah.  The Sand Gnats are in full swing, with $1 Monday Nights and Friday Night Fireworks.  Check their schedule here, and bring the kids out for one more game.  August also means Back-to-School for our area; check here to see when students will be returing, and take advantage of the Tax Free Weekend.  From First Friday Fireworks, to a pre-Labor Day bash at Tybee, here’s what’s happening this month:

The Dog Days of Summer
10am – 10pm.  Bring your furry friend down to River Street and enjoy a variety of fun activities. Shopping at select vendor booths and a photo session with P&B Photography Pet Photo Booth. The evening ends with Fireworks over the Savannah River.

Telfair

1 – 3   Free Admission at
The Telfair Academy
1pm – 4pm.  Bring the family for three free days of admission to the Telfair Academy.  Works included are art spanning through the years 1810 – 1896.

24   Tybee Floatilla
“Will Float for Friends”
2pm.  With the dog days of Summer upon us, what better way to cool off than a leisurely float down the rivers of Tybee Island by inner tube?  Begin at Alley III and end at The Crab Shack.  $30 and proceeds benefit the Fresh Air Home.

Pulaski25   Free Admission at
Fort Pulaski
Bring the family for a day at Fort Pulaski.  For much of the 19th century, masonry fortifications were the United States’ main defense against oversees enemies. However, during the Civil War, new technology proved its superiority to these forts. Tour the Fort and learn how the siege was a landmark experiment in the history of military science and invention.

30   7th Annual Savannah Craft Brew Fest
1pm – 5pm.  The cool rich flavor of amazing Craft Brews lifts your spirits as you take in
Savannah’s skyline across the River.  Showcasing unlimited two-ounce samplings of craft beers from around the world combined with great food, beer seminars, mixology garden, cider garden, and music.

Tybee Labor Day31   Labor Day Beach Bash on
Tybee Island
Enjoy the ocean breezes as live music fills the air from the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. Featuring Live entertainment starting at 7 p.m. Folks can enjoy the fireworks display from the pier, the beach or anywhere on the island.
